Honeybees Predict Rain!

  • Bees know when it's going to rain, so they put in extra work the day before.
  • This is according to Xu-Jiang He and colleagues at Jiangxi Agricultural University in Nanchang, China, who attached tiny radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags to 300 worker honeybees from each of three hives.
  • The bees spent more time out of the hive foraging and stopped work later in the afternoon when the following day proved to be rainy rather than sunny.
